Cocomanella (Nigeria) | Biography


The Cocomanella brand came into existence in October of 2017, seven months after the creative director finished fashion school in Lagos. It was set up originally to solely be a ready- to- wear brand but as part of perfecting the skill, the brand started with bespoke pieces to the pleasure of its clients. The Accra Fashion week will be a platform for the official launch of the brand’s original vision.

The Creative director of Cocomanella, Oluwatobi John is a management science graduate with over 18 years work experience in various fields from management consultancy, event management, media, content production to fashion. She started earning income from fashion as a senior secondary school student in the late 90s by buying fabrics from the famous Tejuoso market in Lagos, creating designs and giving the tailors in the market to make for her to supply to her customers. Her passion for fashion shined through as well when she was a presenter in a Television house in Lagos, which led to her superiors promoting her to a producer on the fashion desk and to becoming one of the coordinators of the Nigerian Television Fashion Show for which she won an award.

In the ever-competitive world of fashion, Tobi saw a gap that needed to be filled which is selling Nigerian heritage and African influence with a cosmopolitan twist to the world, through best in class designs using organic indigenous fabrics. The brand offers bespoke and made to measure ready-to-wear pieces, fashion accessories and soft furnishing. What started of as a teenager’s hobby is set on the path to becoming a global brand.

The Cocomanella brand is for the woman who is strong, smart and elegant. A woman who is unapologetically feminine not feminist and proudly wears the many caps of a woman.

Oluwatobi John is married with two kids. She loves to read, watch fashion shows, travel and dance.

Soraya da Piedade, branded Homonym created by the Angolan Fashion Designer, graduated in Brazil in Business Management and Fashion Design.

The brand has been doing business since 2010 in the fashion world in Brazil and Angola, and has had the honor of presenting its creations in several countries around the world including: Senegal, London, Portugal, South Africa, Moroccos, Brazil and in October of this, in Ghana.

The brand has in its DNA the classic style, elegant but always with a hint of innovation.

It aims to reach new heights with the creation of new lines such as Bridal, Z's For Kids, Exxtra (Plus Size), Bantu (in African prints) and SP For men.

She has won awards for designer of the year in Angola in 2015/2016 and 2017/2018 (in various institutions such as Moda Luanda / Angola Fashion Awards / Zap News / Wedding Industry of Angola, etc) and was recently honored in Brazil by her contribution to the City as a woman and entrepreneur and was also elected in Cameroon as the African Fashion Legend in 2018.

It opened its first branch (Concept Store) in Brazil in July 2017, in the city where it was formed, Curitiba. It has opened in Angola the brand Fast Fashion store and will open her tailor-made and ready- to-wear holding company in Luanda in October this year.

Winner of the 2019 Golden Globes in Creator of the Year category. Soraya da Piedade is a brand that aims to leave a legacy in African and world culture.

I am Fathia Uwase, born in Rwanda and based in Ghana for the last 7years. I have a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and I worked as an accountant for 5years. I have always loved fashion and style. When I moved to Ghana my desire of creativity grew up and led me to a school of fashion and design. I launched my clothing label in 2015. Creative and visionary Fashion Designer with 4 successful years producing exceptional clothes for our clients. Fashion to Augustina Ayinemi Avonsige is a form of communication and expression. She believes the clothes we wear should make a memorable statement wherever we go. This is why her brand “Avonsige” introduces high fashion and Avant Garde designs that are unorthodox for the runway. The desire to pursue this type of fashion is due to the fact that her passion for fashion was heavily inspired by an Avant Garde Fashion show she saw as a teenager. Since that day, she wanted to make designs that would be unforgettable enough to attract both local and international interest which would help her exhibit her designs on runaways worldwide.

Currently, she is working on a high fashion wearable collection dominated by the colour white which is her trademark. Her intention is to create trailblazing trends that will not only express the rich African culture and values but also gain recognition and appreciation in the foreign market. Augustina is all about originality, open-mindedness, statement designs and showcasing the African culture in an unorthodox way.

As we all know nothing sells like authenticity so should Augustina focus on her path and stay true to her arts, her dream of being internationally recognized would be a reality.

One of Ghana’s prominent luxury brands Afre Anko is known for having various lines. However her Miss Afre Anko line which consists of using African prints for her prestige costumers have always received questioning from the odd visitor that wan’ts something more affordable.
