RIOHS Originate

RIOHS ORIGINATE was founded in 2010. The celebrated fashion designer, singer, poet and talents manager, Richard Ohene Sika and award-winning fashion designer Sarah Huang, are the driving forces behind numerous citizen-centered educational initiatives.

Richard’s original vision was to offer the general public the chance to take high quality arts courses by distance learning, without prior qualifications or restrictions. He saw Riohs Originate as a means of transforming people’s lives, giving them the opportunity and skills to express their creative talents under the guidance of professional artists. We still live by those values. By our mission, we deliver a totally integrated Creative Design service/training inspired by our ground-breaking creative ideas which will help achieve excellent results from our students.

We try to instill in our students character building so they grow into confident courageous team players and positively provocative thinkers.

Today Riohs Originate is a thriving creativity enhancement institution whose charitable purpose is to widen participation in arts education. Countless students each year now study creative and visual arts by open learning with us. Riohs strategy is determined by excellent directors of operations. Our head office and training atelier is located on the Blohom Street of Dzorwulu, Accra where all of our tutors are ever present to aid our students.

Accra Fashion Week Set To Take Place Twice A Year In 2018

Ghana’s premier fashion event is ready to square with western fashion weeks by executing seasonal fashion shows twice a year. This is the first in Sub Sahara Africa for a fashion week to be executed twice a year, unless one is counting SA Fashion Week and SA Menswear Week.

As it goes, the two Accra Fashion Weeks will be distinguished by the seasons. The upcoming Accra Fashion Week set to occur on 3-8th October 2017 will be dubbed Spring/Harmattan 2017 where collections presented will be open for the season ahead. The follow up event will be executed in Late March and dubbed the Chilly/Rainy 2018 which will see our fashion designers create clothes for the rainy season following.

Organizers stated “It is not so much an issues about how many collections the designers can create, African designers usually participate in 2 or 3 or more fashion shows a year, so they do have the capacity to produce irregardless of how great business is in the country, the most essential aspect to this is the consistency of branding obtained from being on the runway whilst setting trends for the seasons in our nation”

Accra Fashion Week was launched in 2017 and made history in Africa by compiling the largest amount of foreign designers to showcase in a country for a single event. This October, over 30 designers are set to hit the runway from over 15 countries. For more information visit www.AccraFashionWeek.org.

The Ghana Government Pushes Accra Fashion Week’s #BuyAfricanFashion Movements

It’s a beautiful thing when you start a movement from the bottom and it reaches to the top. Last year we pushed for the boutiques to support African fashion, from communicating with over 300, today we have won the interest of 30 boutiques to finally embrace African fashion.

This year, our movement is based around making Ghanaians realize that what is made at home is actually and truly more stylish, more quality and better than the imported 2nd Hand clothes that are rejected abroad sitting in our fashion boutiques. The movement was born with our advert highlighting and hashtagging #AfricanBrands #Boycott2ndHand #BuyMadeInGhana as seen below.

2 days ago, his excellency Nana Akufo-Addo and Her excellency ‘and 2nd lady’ of Ghana Samira Bawumia launched images with the hashtag #WearMadeInGhana. When speaking to a government staff member about this tag and what it was about. They informed us that it was a movement and it noticed on our Accra Fashion Week flier.

The #WearMadeInGhana hashtag although was a slight little different to the #BuyMadeInGhana which the staffer said was assumed to be what was on our flier. Nevertheless, it is all of the same message and we are glad to see the Ghanaian government pick up on our fashion movement.

On behalf of FashionGHANA.com, we are proud to have had this impact. Many might not know, but somewhere in 2013, you would hardly find a celebrity wearing clothes made in Ghana. After much journalism on brands and critique of celebrity outfits, as well as promoting those that did wear African fashion, we have now reached a day in Ghana where almost every red carpet is filled with made in Ghana fashion. It won’t stop with Accra Fashion Week, we are grateful for the governments embracing our movement and we hope to see you all at Accra Fashion Week this October 3-8th, 2017.
